Custom Wire Forms created by Keats Manufacturing

What is Wire Forming?

Wire forming is a general term for a series of processes that apply force to wire materials in an attempt to change their contour. Specific wire forming techniques may include piercing, bending, shearing, chamfering, swaging, and others depending on size, shape, and configuration requirements. There are many uses for wire forming across verticals such as food production, automotive production, shipping and handling, medical equipment, and many others.

Wire forming accommodates wires made from a variety of metals, including:

  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Certain alloyed metals

Wire forming begins with coiled wire, which undergoes straightening prior to the rest of the process. Different types of machinery may be employed for wire forming based on the specific process and provider, ranging from manual equipment to more automated computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Wire forms are available in a wide range of sizes and shapes, depending on what’s required for a particular tool and its intended purpose. For example, springs, clips, and hooks are among the most commonly recognized wire forms.

Some of the many benefits and uses of wire forming include:

· Electrical appliances. Electricians rely on wire forms for tin-plated copper clips used to secure electrical wiring and certain types of electrical equipment.
· Hooks. Many parts and components use wire-formed hooks as a connecting device.
· Light fittings. Wire forming creates wires that hold lighting fixtures in place within a ceiling.
· Custom wire springs. Wire forming lends itself well to customization, enabling providers to produce custom wire springs for a variety of unique applications.
· Additional applications. Some other potential applications for wire forming include safety equipment, telecom equipment, and textile machines.

Keats Wire Form Capabilities

Keats Manufacturing offers a comprehensive portfolio of reliable wire forming services. We have the ability to provide wire forming services using materials such as:

  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Bronze
  • Carbon steel
  • Copper
  • Nickel
  • Stainless steel
  • Titanium

We can produce a wide variety of wire form products, from links, springs, and wire fasteners to hooks, terminals, and rings. We can also create forms of nearly any size specification, including ultra-fine forms of up to 0.18 inches and finished wire products within tolerances of 0.0005 inches. For assemblies consisting of multiple wire forms, we can weld multiple small forms together.

To optimize both quality and repeatability, we produce custom wire form designs through the use of state-of-the-art multi-side, four-size, and CNC equipment. We build all our own tooling in-house to shorten lead times and reduce project costs.

We offer a variety of additional services as well, such as:

  • Assembly
  • Coining
  • Chamfering
  • Design
  • Grinding
  • Piercing
  • Welding
